Shiny! (Hullabaloo)

Page One
A messenger rides a horned horse along a thin mountain path. To the rider’s left, a short cliff goes up into a forest, and to their right a cliff drops into a forest far below.
The atmosphere is quiet. A bird builds a nest nearby.
A leaf drops from a tree above the rider. The bird is startled by a rustling sound.
The horse’s saddle bags are filled with letters, and one shiny potion bottle sticking out. It has a small ribbon tied around its neck.
The messenger yawns. A click sound startles them. They look up to see a bandit jumping down from the forest above. She throws small noise-bombs towards the horse.
The bombs pop in a flash of light.
Page Two
The horse is startled by the loud pops and flashes of light. It rears up, bucking the messenger off of its back. The bandit leaps past the horse, grabbing the potion bottle from its saddle bag.
The bandit smiles at the potion, pupils dilating like a cat. A sword sweeps up from the ground. The messenger uses it to knock the potion out of her hand. She looks annoyed. The potion rolls away to the right as the messenger takes a few more swipes at the bandit. She leans back in surprise. Their sword cuts the end off of a lock of the bandit’s hair.
She blocks their sword with her sickle. She smiles mischievously at them. She slides her sickle up the blade of their sword, causing sparks.
She hooks her sickle around the handle of their sword and twists it out of their hand. She punches the messenger hard in the face, and they fall to the ground.
The potion bottle rolls toward the cliff’s edge. The messenger spots it and their eyes widen.
The bandit lands on top of the messenger, grabbing their coat. The messenger reaches out toward the potion bottle in a panic. The bandit looks over her shoulder.
The potion bottle falls off of the cliff.
The messenger and the bandit look at each other awkwardly.
A two-page comic I did for my Intro to Comics class at Seneca Illustration! It was two colours for Risograph printing (Raspberry and Hunter Green). It was really fun to work on and I learned a lot through the process of messing around with panel shapes! It turned into a bit of a mad rush at the end there, but with the help of hyperfocus and a looped version of “It’s Going Down Now” from Persona 3 it worked out!
